Fruitful Uses of a Pandemic from An Abundant Hermit

Fruitful Uses of a Pandemic from An Abundant Hermit

So many ways to make fruitful uses of a pandemic. Effortless grazing–that’s us when we “kneel and kiss the ground.” Creator: Eskling.

Fruitful Uses of a Pandemic

Illness seems to naturally lend itself to introspection. Even when it is not our own illness. Introspection is part of raising clarity. Especially now.

You Could Die: Unfruitful Uses of a Pandemic

Yes, you could die. Yes, I could die. Everyone we love might die. From losing everything in a building fire I escaped out the third-floor window on a fire ladder, I know those were not the important considerations at that time. I was alive; I lived to make fruitful use of my life. For myself and others. Today, I live as a hermit (almost), working from home on a mountain with just my partner for company–and the whole world at my fingertips. Including you.

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty & frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

Rumi, tr. Coleman Barks

#1: Manifesting

First, right now, there is immense fluidity and flexibility. Almost anything you want to manifest right now has an opening. Think about this when panic arises. Possibility and chaos look the same.

Right now, if you try to manifest it, you will have an opening—but so does every other seedling right now. How to choose? Choose support. The entire Universe supports a goal that is good for everyone. So be thoughtful, be bold and compassionate in manifesting.

#2: Time

If you find you have more time on your hands than usual, don’t wait for externals to carve it up for you. Become a ninja. Sculpt your own time. Here are our posts on time-sculpting.

NOTE: If you have others you are suddenly sequestered with 24/7, this is especially important.

#3: Money

If you find you have less income than usual, sculpt some time to investigate working remotely. (I like Upwork and idealist.)

There is a greater than usual opening for new ventures that can take place online. Who’s in your network? How can you serve them? What quirky new ideas have you been meaning to try? Sculpt some time for them and try them.

Last But Far from Least

Be in touch.

Stay well fed.

Rest.

Clean deeply.

Read. (Books.)

Ask for more ideas and recommendations.

This is a fruitful time. Sow well, reap forever.

Wonderful voice of reason during a period of unrest. I too am using my time to create an online teaching business.

Goodness, thank you, Darryl! Makes me think of hosting a coaching group for people manifesting during this time of great change. I’d love to hear more about what you are teaching.

I’m focusing on tutoring at the high school and grade school level. I’m also doing some Anatomy and Physiology tutoring to build on my massage training. I also earned my TEFL certificate but haven’t officially done any training in that area yet. My hope is to build up my reputation and eventually do classes I set up. My wife Angela and I have a lot of forward thinking philosophies that we believe the world needs going forward. Our old paradigms have got to change if we are to survive as a species. My dream is to create a real life discipline akin to the mythical Vulcan philosophies. It is a combination of Stoicsm, Budhism, and Taoism without the spiritual silliness. Forgive me for being abstract but I haven’t yet codified the system. I would welcome other people’s input and hope to build a community around this. I believe we can change the world.
