Who’s a Money Magician?

Who’s a Money Magician? You are. Let me point it out to you, just as she is doing, this Girl at a Mirror by Paulus Moreelse.

Who’s a Money Magician?

You are. We are.

In her comment to this recent post, our reader Danielle again revealed herself to be a Magician. She does this all the time. (My blog search software doesn’t search the comments to this blog, but Danielle comments often.) And she was surprised when I pointed it out.

Why? What Makes Me Claim You Are a Money Magician?

Danielle’s pleased surprise made me want to point it out to you: we are Money Magicians.  We may receive low pay for a lot of work, or have more than one job, or not be able to buy every darned thing we want.

But most of us reading this post exemplify the Magician qualities, among them:

  • fearlessness
  • willingness to self-explore and self-question

and especially

  • willingness to develop a healthy, strong, loving relationship with money–its inflow and its outflow.

I thought it might make your day if I pointed this out to you.

How Do You Become More of a Money Magician?

As you know, I’m a money coach. And we use Deborah Price’s money archetypes quiz as one tool to help us identify the various “voices” speaking in our clients’ heads (archetypes) about money. The Magician is the one you want, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, there are three healthy archetypes (Creator/Artist and Warrior are the other two). But for me, all the qualities I seek to develop in myself and my soul-colleagues come together in the Magician.

These are some of the key qualities of a Magician (per the quiz):

  • Trusting
  • Compassionate
  • Balanced
  • Creative
  • Resourceful
  • Confident
  • Generous
  • Authentic
  • Optimistic.

Notice that “wealthy” isn’t on the list. Nor is “manipulative.” Those aren’t Magician qualities, although a Warrior quality is “financially successful.” (It’s also a Tyrant quality, though, so watch out. If you want to learn more, read the posts here, take the quiz at Deborah’s site, or take the quiz with me as part of coaching.)

My hypothesis has always been that if, when it comes to money, work, vocation, boundaries around your time and energy, you strengthen Magician qualities in yourself (remembering Balance), you will grow the  Magician within. I mean: You will have more money, know what to do with it, and trust your relationship with its flow.

So there you go. That’s how you do it. And I learned it from you.

This reminds me of studying other forms of magic. We learn that the most important things are the feelings, intent and level of emotion you put into it. The actions or ritual while necessary are almost incidental. It is your personal energy and approach that makes it work. I have found this to be true especially in sales work. People buy your feelings or emotions more so than product. Doing anything sincerely and enthusiastically will always beat the perfect presentation.

Or, if I read you correctly, Darryl, your last line could read, “Doing anything sincerely and enthusiastically will always MAKE the perfect presentation!”

Yes. Exactly. An enthusiastic idiot will always beat a melancholy genius.
